Year after year the same crisis is manufactured. The U.S. must avoid default, otherwise, cataclysmic results - no social security payments, hyper inflation, stock market crash, higher than high interests rates, deep worldwide recession - occur.
There is an easy way to solve the problem permanently. A Constitutional Amendment would require that unless an agreement takes place, the budget that is in place for the existing fiscal year will remain in effect for one more year. No politician seriously wants that to happen, hence an agreement would be made.
So simple. Or is it?
A permanent solution would deprive Washington politicos of the annual opportunity to primp and preen before the media about how they and they alone saved the nation - indeed, the entre world - from total destruction.
